  • Choose What Nourishes You!

    January 2nd, 2021
Happy New Year 2021 – GIFs, Images, Quotes, Wishes & Messages

The new year has dawned, 2020 Is behind us, and we are off to a running start!

.“Behold old things are passed away,” and we have welcomed the advent of a brand-new day (2 Corinthians 5:17)

    We must live like it!

From this point we press forward!

Reflection is warranted, however, if success is what you choose for yourself, as much as you can, leave those other things in the rearview

    Focus on growth and progress!

This means evaluating everything around you. Determine what serves you and what is hindering you. Let everything that is not serving you go.

Thoughts, things, attitudes, people…  Let them go!

We are like flowers, we grow upward, opening towards the sun.

    Nourishing environments accelerate our growth.

As Groeschel notes in his thought-provoking book Soul Detox, “Roots absorb whatever moisture is nearby into their system to nourish them. If roots absorb contaminated waters, the tree(flower) becomes diseased and unhealthy” (88-89)

So inspect your soil, examine your pond.

If your circle of influence is toxic, break the circle.

If your situation or those with whom you relate leave you feeling worse, then you are swimming in a contaminated pond.  Save yourself now and jump out.

Transplant yourself, set yourself up for the success you want!

Whatever you want its yours, if you make the right choices.

  • Nothing like the Present

The time of year is upon us where introspection becomes key, and all sights are trained on looking forward.  Although redundant for many, quite a few still feel an urge to develop a stronger resolve to become better in character and deed before the close of the year.

Do's and Don'ts of New Year's Resolutions - New Bedford Guide

Resolution is theoretically a good practice. There is always something that can be worked on. Pledging to commit to growth is never futile.

However, those who are waiting for a specific space in time to commit to change are setting themselves up for failure. In fact, I wager that those who anticipate the turn of a year to change are probably less likely to commit.

    Why?

A desire to grow and improve should be a daily goal.  If we genuinely want to excel, we should be creating goals, and committing to meeting those goals every day. If for some reason, there is no process for growth, then there is an intrinsic change that must first take place.

It takes a certain mindset to develop the right habits which lead to meaningful change. Mindset does not change with the flip of a calendar page.Calendar

One must actively work to change how they think.

It is hard for me to admit, but I am in a struggle with myself. When questioned on my progress, I desperately reach for ways to excuse my shortcomings. But, when I take time, sit, breathe, think and really review my daily habits I realize I am not honest with myself.

Things happen. Sometimes life gets in the way. But there is a very wise quote that which carries great weight.

Often times there is no reasonable excuse. I do not need more time. I do not need more resources. I do not need for another year to roll around. I simply need to make a conscious decision to make better choices every day.

I need to ask myself daily, what is important? What can I do today to get me one step closer to realizing my goal? Then I have to focus on that.

Excellence is a result of putting first things first.

Yes, even I cheat myself. I do not put in enough time or focus on the work that is required to accomplish what I set out to do. I choose things that don’t serve me. Thus, I end up a servant to time, to others, and then I lament.

I will do better. Not next week or next year, but tomorrow, and I hope you will join me.

Don’t wait until the next few weeks roll around to commit to grow. Commit to making the right choices today. No more excuses.

When we make the right choices that is when we begin to see our dreams manifest.

  • Spread the Wealth

This has been a pretty challenging year. It seems like we are in one of those snow globes and suddenly someone flipped it upside down, shook it up, before setting it down once more.

Everyone is still steadying themselves, while mustering every bit of energy to acclimate themselves to the new normal. It has not been easy. However, the one assuring thing is that we are all in this together. No one’s life has gone unaffected by the events of 2020.

While it may be difficult to see, if you, like me, are still hanging in there, there is something to be thankful for. Even if the only thing that seems to be going right, is the fact that you lived to see another sunrise, remember it is more than some people have. The fact that you are still here means that you still have a purpose.

One of the biggest lessons that I am learning this year is that I am the most blessed when I bless others. It is not about how much I have, but it is about what I give out of my abundance. If you are willing to share with others, even out of the little that you have, it will come back to you. That is what it means to spread the wealth.

Helen Keller, Shakespeare skeptic | Perkins School for the Blind

Helen Keller has an inspiring story. In her life she had to overcome some difficult obstacles, and her life is a beautiful testament to overcoming.

There was one particular quote that was said to have been a force of inspiration in her life. It is recorded as thus, “I cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet”

We don’t always have the opportunity to see how blessed we really are. Sometimes we have to be reminded.

This season I challenge you to try to focus a little more on what you do have. Do what is in your limited power to help someone else. It does not have to be material; it can be in word or deed. I assure you, if you do this one simple thing it will be one of the best gifts you can ever give, not only to others. but also, to yourself.

  • One Small Caveat

    July 23rd, 2020

Not all skilled people become craftsman.

Applying the formula for success will not always give you a positive outcome.

Putting in work will not guarantee you a reward.

No Guarantee | Home Education Network

Beware, in everything there is always one small caveat. There is always one small detail that has a huge impact on the outcome.

    Puzzling Patents | SpicyIP

Ever wonder why despite your knowledge people ignore what you have to say or refer to someone less knowledgeable?

Ever been puzzled about how years of experience are passed over for novices?

Its because there is always one small caveat.

Yes, you need knowledge to gain respect, but that never guarantees respect.

Yes, experience gives you the wisdom to pass on to others, but it does not guarantee that people will listen.

Clip Art Activities Puzzling | PicGifs.com

I once assumed, to my great dismay, that people would automatically listen if by all practical standards you have demonstrated worth through education, skill, or experience.

But, I was disappointed time and time again.

There was one small caveat that I neglected

The caveat being you have to have appeal

Your experience or education does not make people sit up and pay attention, but your appeal does.

Your education, skill, and experience only get you a seat in the room, not the position.

What people perceive you know makes all of the difference.

Even if you have limited education or experience if others perceive that you know what you are talking about they will listen to you.

If your success depends on being heard it would be wise to invest in methods that will broaden your appeal.

If you don’t want to be disappointed in life always pay attention to the caveats.

Ask what is the one thing that makes all the difference and work to strengthen that.

  • Success does not always mean winning

Taffyta Muttonfudge - Second Place is for Losers! by ...

How you measure success is critical.
In life, there will only be so many winners, or more appropriately gold medalist, noble prize winners, Oscar winners, Grammy winners, first place holders.
It is never wise to base your success on achieving these positions. If you choose to base your success on being first, Remember that your failure to achieve these positions does not indicate that you are a failure.

Success and achievement have more to do with how you frame your vision

Image result for two drawings in one | Optical illusions pictures ...

If you frame your vision to look at any place other than first, as winning, then the probability that you will be sorely disappointed in life is almost 100%.

Winning does not have to equal first. Success does not always mean winning.

Whether you know it or not, you have already been hugely successful in life, but perhaps you can’t see it. Maybe this is due to the yardstick by which you are using to measure your success.

Stop using other people's measuring sticks... | Success business ...

Sucess more aptly means to have achieved.

If you have completed something that you have set out to do, then you have been successful. It does not matter what place you came in or how long it took you to get there. What matters is that you have accomplished what you set out to do.

When you think about how much you have completed or how far you have come from where you were, you will begin to see how successful you have actually been.

The more successful that you perceive yourself to be, the more motivated you are to achieve more and more exceptional. This is the compound effect at work.

Compound Effect Quotes: top 11 famous quotes about Compound Effect

It is okay to set your sights high, but you also must be realistic. Your goals have to always be SMART. Specific, Measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.

    1. You have to be specific concerning what you want. You must have a starting point from which to measure from and an ending point to mark your success. Otherwise, you will never know how far you have come and the distance you have to go.

    2. You must have the ability to achieve the goal you set. You must have the skillset, talent, resources, and the opportunity. Or, you must have the means and time to acquire any of those mentioned above.

    3. The steps you take must be relevant. If the activities you choose will not contribute to achieving your goal, then you must re-evaluate.

Example: You want to grow prize tomatoes. Engaging in activities that will not contribute to cultivating prize tomatoes is not relevant and potentially serves as a distraction.

    4. Setting a time to achieve a goal is what provides the motivation. Being reasonable about the time set is what makes it possible to achieve what you set out.

If you follow that formula, every step you take puts you further down the road from where you started is a success.

It’s not just about reaching the destination; it is also the journey.
