  • Teamwork does Make the dream work

Your personal resources will only take you so far.

Thus, expanding your network is vital.

One can only know so much or do so much on their own.

Someone once said, “team-work makes the dream work.”

I proffer that  no truer words have been spoken.

We are incapable of doing anything in our own power, or with our resources alone, and trying to do so will lead to failure or burnout.

I once read that Henry Ford, business magnate who revolutionized the automobile industry with his innovative assembly line process and Model T automobile, was not concerned with knowing everything.

Rather, he was more concerned with knowing one thing well.

Subsequently, he would find others to work with him that knew the things he did not.

He, knew how to leverage his resources!

An important factor of teamwork is having the right players on your team.

A basketball team does not win championships with a roster of only power forwards, nor football teams with a team of just quarterbacks.

There are several positions that must be filled.

And,  each person filling that position must be great at what he or she does.

Building your personal team for success should be nothing different.

You need a mover and shaker.

You need a dreamer and an implementer.

You need a developer and a marketer.

    You need a complement!

When building your team, look for those who add value or contribute something you cannot.

In order to do so, first ensure that you are the best at what you can do, and then power forward to build your dream team.

I promise you that you, yes you, will be unstoppable!

A vast majority of the work you must do to prepare for success is inner work.

What is on display externally: habits, work ethic, attitude, is all an expression of ones inner condition.

How you think (your mindset), perceive, form ideas based on that perception ( perspective), are emotionally conditioned and respond in lieu of that conditioning, are  components of your internal framework.

It is easy to put on a pretense in the short term,

It is far from difficult, to project that you have a robust and healthy external framework.

However, that pretense is not sustainable in the long-term.

You might do the right things for a small period of time.

You may be able to display a positive attitude and outlook temporarily.

Nevertheless, If the inner framework does not adequately support the external then it will falter.

    Recently, I had an appointment.

I knew that based on some surfacing pain, that there were some internal issues.

However, everything appeared good from the external, at least from my perspective.

But despite the surface appearance, the underlying pain was a signal that everything was not okay.

From a basic examination it looked as if there were only a few issues. Superficially, to even an outside party, everything seemed okay.

However after a deeper examination, where the internal could be fully explored, it was determined that a vast amount of work needed to be done.

While the external had not fully reflected what was happening within it would only be a matter of time before it would.

And furthermore, It would be no small thing to fix.

The moral of this anecdotal account is that attentiveness to the inner environment is as equally as important, if not more important, than attentiveness to the external.

In fact, the outside will start to take care of itself once the inside is properly attended to.

Spend time examining your mindset, perceptions, perspectives, belief systems, and emotional conditioning.

Work to clean out the rot, and strengthen the areas that don’t reflect what you wish them to reflect externally.

Work hard on creating that alignment where your inner nature is in balance with your outer nature.

Robin S. Sharma acclaimed author once said, “It wasn’t until I began to work on my inner life and know myself that my life changed. Success really does begin within. The size and quality of your outer life is only limited by the size and quality of your inner life.” -Quote by Robin S. Sharma

  • Humanities Greatest Superpower

    Superheroes are ideals.

They are symbols of power, strength, possessors of unique and special abilities typically harnessed to defeat the bad guys and rid the world of injustice.

The first superhero arrived on the scene in 1936.

However, it was not long before they became a staple of mainstream American culture, gaining traction shortly after their introduction.

It was time when  the world was making its way,

America was on the precipice of war, and yet still reeling from the Great depression.

There was a great encompassing fear of uncertainty and a desperate need for hope.

These heroes were symbols of that hope.

As Stan Lee so aptly phrased it, “For men must never feel a cause is hopeless—men must never feel an enemy cannot be beaten.”

Thus, arose the class of superheroes

I do not believe that there are many children who have not dreamed at some time or another of possessing a superpower.

It is not senseless to assume that there were quite many who held to hope that perhaps one day, the would awaken with the ability to fly, run faster than the speed of light, become imbued with strength of the incredible hulk, become cloaked with invisibility, or don invincibility.

But, with age, many put away those youthful dreams, and hopes, and settled for living a life of normal.

Yet, the world never changed. The world remains rife with injustices, and bad guys, but no superhumans to save the day, at least not like those in the comics.

But, what if I told you that we all have a superpower.

How would you feel knowing that your power is one of the most substantive powers to exist?

What is that power, you ask?

That power is the power of influence!

While influence is a little word it carries significant weight.

Every where you go you have influence.

Your influence may not always noticeable to you.

However, the impact is life altering to many whom you come in contact with.

You influence with your appearance, words, and actions.

Every where you go you make an impression.

That impression will either affect others positively or negatively.

Your footsteps are so loud that they echo.

Your mouth so powerful that it dissects and builds with mere whispers.

Your touch so powerful that it can heal or destroy.

    Thus, always be mindful.

    Use measured steps.

    Use your power for good.

You never know whose life you will touch.

And if you sit and think on , I think you will realize that it is a mighty power to wield.

  • Take the shot

    March 11th, 2021

All you need is an opportunity just one opportunity!

However, opportunities are not always limitless.

    Opportunities are not always blatant.

Thus, you must always be ready.

You must stay read up, fueled up, so that you can be in a position to level up.

When the opportunity does come and you are hesitant, or unsure don’t be afraid to investigate or research it.

    Ask questions!

Remember the only wrong question is the one that goes unasked.

It is true that not everything is for you. That is why you must know what you are good at.

You must understand your skills and abilities.

    You must know your limitations.

You must have the passion to drive your pursuit or else the opportunity will be useless to you.

However, when a door opens walk through it.

If it is a window climb through it.

Heaven forbid it is just a crack, then squeeze through it.

Whatever you do, do not turn down an opportunity unless you are sure that it’s not for you. You never know where it will take you.

That is why the story of Alexander Hamilton is so inspiring.

His life may have been flawed, but whose is not.

However, his grit and tenacity is something worth emulating. He took advantage of the opportunities before him and at times created his own.

He rose up from where he was to something greater, to a position that probably could have never been imagined for him.

“Men give me credit for some genius. All the genius I have lies in this; when I have a subject in hand, I study it profoundly. Day and night it is before me. My mind becomes pervaded with it. Then the effort that I have made is what people are pleased to call the fruit of genius. It is the fruit of labor and thought.” ― Alexander Hamilton

He did not, “throw away his shot.”

He stayed read up, fueled up, so that he could level up given an opportunity.

We must too be as Lin Manuel penned Hamilton,

“I am not throwing away my shot! I am not throwing away my shot! Hey yo, I’m just like my country I’m young, scrappy and hungry And I’m not throwing away my shot!

Do not throw away an opportunity unless, you know with absolute certainty that its not for you. And, please do not try to squeeze into a place that you cannot fit or, the entire time that you occupy that space, it will be excruciatingly uncomfortable.

This is because; you will be occupying someone else’s space while the position actually meant for you will go to someone else.

Stay hungry, and don’t throw away your shot.

  • Self-Valuation

    March 10th, 2021

Sometimes to get to a point of elevation you must remove yourself from a position of degradation.

You, have to know your worth, value, and what you bring to a role or position.

You cannot let others determine your value for you. Many will try  to devalue you, to create a false sense of value in themselves. This is where comparison becomes extremely volatile.

Do not use others as your yardstick, the measurement for measuring your worth.

The assessment will always come out wrong.

    You, are your own yardstick!

    Self-worth

No one has the unique blend of experiences, skill sets, or talents that you have. Therefore, using others to determine your value is doing yourself a disservice.

You may want to research how others got where you want to be.

You may want to look at others to determine your marketability (whether others will invest in what you have to offer, given your polish).

However, never look to others to determine your actual worth.

Be sure not to overvalue yourself.

Whether what you say you can do, is in actual alignment with your capabilities, is the basis of integrity.

Over inflating your value can slow down progressive achievement. People are less likely to trust or extend opportunities to those who don’t have the skills, experience, or talent to match their valuation.

However, when you do determine your worth; let no one undersell you on that. Make sure others are informed, and that they treat or compensate you accordingly. When you begin to build or improve always use your baseline assessment as your marker for improvement.

Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Do not bother to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.” -William Faulkner
